On-campus positions
Through your classes at SLCC, you are gaining knowledge and skills that are preparing you for a career. You can get experience applying this knowledge and skills through the myriad work-study opportunities offered through the Thayne Center office and benefit community partners in the process. From working on campus in the Bruin Pantry to tutoring through America Reads or being directly placed at a nonprofit, we hope to make a mutually beneficial connection for you and our community partner.
You will learn to be a good tutor through the America Reads orientation, training from your America Reads partner sites, and ongoing trainings through the Thayne Center for Service and Learning. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to reflect on your impact at your site through prompts and workshops.
After filing your FAFSA, you can find out from SLCC Financial Aid about your work-study eligibility. The maximum work study award is $2,850 per semester. You can earn your federal work-study award at $11.00 to $13.00 an hour through our programs. Students interested in community work-study opportunities who are not eligible for work-study are welcome to pursue the opportunity as a volunteer and may be eligible for the AmeriCorps Education Award program.
The first step is to review the list of opportunities above and apply through SLCC Jobs. If you have questions about the positions or want to brainstorm what might be a good fit for you, please reach out to our coordinator for a meeting first to discuss the opportunities. After you have applied, there will be an interview and/or orientation process.
