Certificate Program Students

The Horizonte Scholarship for SAT Students is for Horizonte graduates who are interested in obtaining a certificate at Salt Lake Community College. This scholarship covers 75% of tuition, fees, and books for one certificate program.

Scholarship Application Dates: Anytime between August 1-June 15 of the following year. (The scholarship application is closed from June 16-July 31 each year.)

  1. Apply to be a student at SLCC
    • If you need help applying, please call the following SLCC Admissions advisors:

  1. Once you have your student number, please visit SLCC AwardSpring site to fill out the General Scholarship Application. 
  1. The General Scholarship Application has five essay questions. Please take your time with your responses, ensuring you have fully answered each specific question. We recommend writing 1-2 paragraphs for each essay.
    • What prompted you to pursue an education at Salt Lake Community College?
    • What are your educational goals?
    • Talk about a personal accomplishment that is unrelated to academics, but that means a lot to you.
    • Describe a challenge you have overcome and what you learned from that challenge.
    • What impact would receiving a scholarship have on your ability to complete your education?
Tip for Success: Pre-write your essay responses in Microsoft Word so you can ask an advisor or friend to proof your responses. The Salt Lake Community Writing Center is always happy to help students with their essay questions.
  1. When you complete the General Scholarship Application, check your AwardSpring Dashboard for follow-up opportunities you may qualify for. Click on the Horizonte Scholarship for SAT Students and fill out the brief application.
Tip for Success: You might qualify for multiple scholarships! Please apply to all of the scholarships that show up on your Dashboard as additional opportunities. 
  1. Expect to hear back from SLCC about your scholarship award within a month of the application close date for Spring and Summer Semesters. For Fall semester, you should hear back during the month of June. If you have questions about your scholarship, please email scholarships@slcc.edu .
  • You are responsible for the other 25% of your tuition, fees, and books.
  • If you are working toward a certificate, you must stay continually enrolled in the program without taking any breaks. If you take a break, you must re-apply for the scholarship.
  • You must:
    • Write a thank you letter (details given if awarded scholarship)
    • Meet with your academic advisor at least once each block.
