HVAC Energy Optimization
Introduction to large commercial HVAC systems/energy use with site visit and follow-up discussions to help students identify system types and conservation opportunities. Topics include waterside HVAC system types, review of the refrigeration cycle, fluid flow in piping and ducts, system tuning, operations and maintenance, problem solving using psychrometrics and energy conserving retrofit options.
Recommended Pre-Requisite(s): MATH 1010 or 1050; PHYS 1010
Section List
EGMT 1210
Course further explores large commercial HVAC systems and energy use with emphasis on energy management calculation methods using computerized spreadsheets, focusing on energy conversion factors, dimensional analysis, and documentation standards. Fundamental effective calculations practiced for combustion motors and refrigeration.
Recommended Pre-Requisite(s): MATH 1010 or 1050; PHYS 1010
Section List
EGMT 1220
Training highlights basic concepts of thermodynamics and applies them to heating and cooling systems. After completing this certificate, you will be able to estimate annual energy consumption using temperature bin analysis as well as identify factors affecting energy performance for HVAC components and perform calculations to analyze common energy conservation measures for commercial HVAC systems.
Instruction incorporates both classroom lectures and hands-on activities outside of the classroom.
Please check the Tuition & Fees Schedule. Each course is equivalent to 2 credit hours.
The Energy-Efficient Lighting Certificate consists of four courses, each course runs for 10 weeks. EGMT 1210 – HVAC Energy Analysis II and EGMT 1220 – Commercial Air Conditioning Systems Analysis run concurrently. Please visit the Energy Management AAS Program Schedule to see when these classes are offered.
Once the four courses are completed your certificate will be mailed to you at the address you provided at registration. Please contact the Program Manager if your address has changed. If you are seeking an Energy Management AAS degree, a certificate will not be issued unless you request one from the Program Manager.
