Important Info for Graduates

Follow these steps to make sure you're ready for commencement!

1. Apply for Graduation

2. Attend Grad Fair

Grad Fair is the opportunity to purchase your cap and gown, pickup any cords you have earned, order graduation announcements and meet representatives of the Alumni Association, Career Services and the Grad Office.

  • In-person Grad Fair

    March 23-24 at the Bookstore on the Taylorsville Redwood Campus. In-person cap and gown available beginning March 28 in the Taylorsville Redwood, South City and Jordan Bookstores.

  • Online

    Available through April 22, 2022 at the Bookstore website.

  • Commencement

    May 6, 2022. The Bookstore will have limited caps and gowns on site the morning of commencement. You’ll find them next to the Alumni Association in the student tent area the northeast side of the Maverik Center.

    Check back for final date to get your name in the final program.


  • Graduation Set: $36 (includes black graduation gown, mortar board graduation cap and royal blue/gold tassel with graduation year.)
  • Individual Tassel: $6
  • Blink Tassel: $10
  • Tassel Keyring: $6
  • Stole of Gratitude: $27 (Blue satin stole with SLCC seal to be worn during commencement and then presented to an individual who supported you in your journey through college.)

Pick up your cords

  • If you are attending Grad Fair, the Bookstore will give you any cords you have earned.
  • If you are purchasing your cap and gown online, please add a store comment if you are requesting any honor cords so they can be mailed along with your cap and gown.

Honors Graduates

  • Silver Cord
    • Students who complete coursework with a cumulative grade point average between 3.50 and 3.79 will be awarded honors at graduation.
  • Gold Cord
    • Students who complete coursework with a cumulative grade point average of 3.80 or higher will be awarded high honors and qualify for a gold cord.

Tassel Placement

Tassel placement – right or left? Right! Start the ceremony with your tassel on the right side of your cap. Move it to the left as you receive your diploma or when directed to do so by the graduation speaker.

3. Reserve tickets


**Students will need to reserve space for friends and family, tickets will not be required for entry.**

5. Parking

Parking at the Maverik Center will be available to everyone. Please review the parking map to identify your parking area.

6. Arrival

Upon arrival at the Maverik Center, look for your school tent in the northeast section of the parking lot. Each school tent has a banner in the colors listed below.

7. Photography

Professional photographers will take your photo before you begin up the ramp to the stage. Face coverings and social distancing will not be required when having your photo taken or crossing the stage.
