The SLCC American Sign Language/Interpreting department offers two programs:

  • The American Sign Language Program allows you to get an Associate of Arts degree and transfer to a four-year institution to pursue a Bachelor's degree.
  • The ASL/English Interpreting Program allows you to graduate with an Associate of Applied Science degree, trains students to be skilled ASL/English interpreters and prepares them to take the state certification exam an enter the interpreting field. The program accepts 12 students each Fall and entrance can be competitive. Applications may be submitted prior to completion of prerequisites, however if more than 12 students apply, those who have completed all the prerequisites will be given preference. Students who are completing the last of their prerequisite courses in the summer term are encouraged to apply.
