3 Easy Steps For New Students

Guest Students must complete the Guest Student Application for each semester of enrollment in order to obtain required approvals for the requested classes. Just print out, fully complete, and sign the application, indicating which courses you are planning to take as a Guest Student You are responsible for obtaining the signature of your Home Institution school official stating that you have the appropriate prerequisite requirements for your requested courses. Submit the completed application to the Admissions Office as directed on the second page of the application. You may pay the $40 admission fee at this time, or the fee will be billed to your account. Please allow 3 to 4 days for your application to be processed.

International students will be subject to SLCC International tuition and fee policy and must submit the following documents along with the Guest Student Application:

  • Copy of I-20 from Home Institution

Paying for College can be overwhelming and confusing. As a non-degree seeking student, Guest Students are not eligible to receive federal financial aid or veteran’s education benefits at SLCC. The good news? SLCC is more affordable than most institutions in Utah.

MySLCC is a secure portal for SLCC students. You'll use your MySLCC account to register for classes, view your schedule, and monitor your degree progress (among other really cool resources).

Follow these steps to create your MySLCC.

Have your Student Number (S-Number) on hand.

Go to MySLCC Select "Get your username and password (New Users)" below login boxes Follow the instructions to fill in the required information and create a password. Make a record of your MySLCC login and keep it in a secure location.

BruinMail is an official communication tool between SLCC and you. You’re expected to check your BruinMail frequently and read emails in a timely fashion.

Register
for Classes

Once the admission process is completed, the Office of the Registrar and Academic Records will submit an override permit on the student record for the approved course(s) identified on your Guest Student Application. This override permit waives the prerequisite and takes approximately 3 to 4 days to be processed. Once the override is recorded, students are then responsible to register for the class(es) through their Student Portal.

SLCC offers so many options, we don't even have enough space to list them all here. Let's just say this: it doesn't matter what your goals are for attending SLCC, we can help you reach them. In fact, we might even offer something you didn't even know existed.

Once you've settled on a schedule, you can copy and paste CRNs (Course Reference Numbers) into your registration worksheet, accessed through your MySLCC, to prepare for registration.

Get Ready
For School

You can pick up your OneCard at a Student Information Center at Taylorsville Redwood, South City, Jordan, and Miller campuses. Make sure you bring a photo ID. Having this card means perks! Your OneCard gives you access to awesome stuff:

  • College facilities like the sweet workout room and gym called the Lifetime Activities Center.
  • Your pass for the FREE B-line intercampus shuttle, and as your bus pass if you purchase a UTA Ed-Pass.
  • You can activate your OneCard as a pre-paid Discover debit card, and quickly receive refunds from the college.
  • Discounts and incentives (read: free stuff!) at campus stores, local restaurants, museums, Bruin sporting events, The Grand Theatre, and you can even use it to pay for printing at college computer labs.

Now that you've registered for classes, it is time to buy books. Find out what books you need – go to MySLCC > Student tab > MyBooks. Visit the College Store. They guarantee to have the book required for your class. Check out some of our Open Educational Resources (OER) and other ways the College is trying to help you save money on books.

Parking

You're required to purchase a parking permit for every campus except Meadowbrook. Parking Enforcement officers patrol lots and ticket vehicles without passes. Student Parking passes can be purchased online or in person at Parking Services.

B-Line Intercampus Shuttle

You can ride the free B-Line intercampus shuttle between five campuses: South City, Meadowbrook, Taylorsville Redwood, Jordan and Miller. Your college OneCard is your FREE bus pass.

B-Line Schedule

Ride UTA

You can purchase a discounted UTA Ed-Pass to ride UTA buses, TRAX and Frontrunner. Your OneCard acts as your pass.

You can pay your tuition several ways:

  • Online through MySLCC with a credit card, savings account transfer, or check. After logging in to MySLCC, select the Student tab, and Tuition Payment on the right.
  • By phone with a credit or debit card at 801-957-3914.
  • Visit one of five cashier locations to pay in person.
  • Mail check or money order payable to SLCC. Write your Student Number on the top of the check and mail it to:

Guest Student FAQ

A Guest Student at Salt Lake Community College is an individual who:

  • Enrolled and completing degree or certificate requirements at another college or university (primary institution);
  • Who seeks to complete credit hours at SLCC with the intention of transferring earned SLCC credits to their primary institution;
  • Who is non-degree seeking and as a result is ineligible to receive financial aid or veteran's education benefits at SLCC.

Complete the Guest Student Application. A $40 admission application fee is required. It can be paid at the time of submission or will be billed to your account. This application fee and application is valid for three years. For following semesters of enrollment, a new application with required approvals and signature for prerequisite, must be submitted.

Individuals who apply and receive Guest Student status are exempt from completing new student orientation.

Guest Students are required to submit the Guest Student Application by the Admission Application Deadline for the semester they wish to attend class at SLCC. Please check the Academic Calendar for current Admission Application Deadlines.

Yes, International Students may apply as Guest Students. Individuals identified as International Students will be subject to the College’s tuition and fee policy and must submit a copy of their I-20 from their Home Institution along with the Guest Student Application.

Financial Aid is not available from SLCC for a Guest Student. The Application Fee and Tuition are the responsibility of the Guest Student.

No. Individuals who apply and receive Guest Student status are exempt from placement testing (ACCUPLACER) prior to registration.

No. Individuals who apply and receive Guest Student status are eligible for a prerequisite waiver if currently enrolled for the prerequisite at their primary institution, or meet course prerequisites as defined by their primary institution. Guest Students must have all required signatures prior to submitting the Guest Student Application to receive the course prerequisite waiver.

The typical admission and override process takes approximately 3 to 4 days. Depending on the semester time frame, it may take longer. Once the override is recorded, students are then responsible to register for the class(es) through their Student Portal.

Guest Students do not need to transfer prerequisites. Individuals who apply and receive Guest Student status are eligible for a prerequisite waiver if currently enrolled for the prerequisite at their primary institution, or meet course prerequisites as defined by their primary institution. Guest Students must have all required signatures prior to submitting the Guest Student Application to receive the course Prerequisite waiver.

Guest Students may complete credit hours at SLCC with the intention of transferring earned SLCC credits to their primary institution. Individuals planning to complete 16 credit hours or more do not qualify for Guest Student status and should complete a traditional SLCC application.

Yes. All Guest Students will be subject to the College’s tuition and fee policy.

No. If you have no previous college credit, please fill out the general Admissions Application for SLCC.

The following defines a "Guest Student" at Salt Lake Community College (SLCC) as an individual:

Individuals seeking admission as a Guest Student, must complete the “Guest Student Application” for each semester of enrollment in order to obtain the required approvals for the requested classes. Individuals who apply for "Guest Student" status must also provide a $40 admissions application fee, which will be billed to your account if not paid at the time of submission. Individuals who apply and receive Guest Students status are:
